Data Capture Sources

Summary

Use Data Capture Sources and Metrics to access information about data capture options available in the Salesforce Audience Studio platform. Identify which sources have been implemented, additional sources that are available, and monitor what's working and what's not.

The data included is intended to provide near real-time results (about a 15 minute delay) and only includes the recent data based on logs rather than aggregated data that is provided the next day in various reports. Since the data is based on logs, the counts are represented as total number logged and are not deduplicated to unique users.

Data Capture Sources

Access Data Capture Sources by navigating to Manage > Data Capture Sources.

Each capture source provides unique capabilities and the respective links may be found by selecting the gear icon next to one of the capture sources. For capture sources that have been implemented, a chart is displayed indicating data capture activity over the past 24 hours (rolling timeframe).

Version 1 includes Control Tag (pixel.gif), Media Impression Tracking (adimpressiongif) and Audience Studio Click Tracker.

In the future additional tracking pixels and endpoints will be incrementally added to the Data Capture metrics dashboard.

Control Tag - Websites

This capture source is implemented on website pages and is configured based on confid (Site) and attribute data is captured based on key / value pairs. By clicking on the gear icon, users are able to access additional related resources and reports.

  • Attribute Metrics: View recently captured attributes
  • Site Metrics: View recent data capture activity by site (confid)
  • Manage Sites: Link to the existing Manage Sites screen where users may access Control Tag code or create new sites
  • Control Tag Help: Help content for implementing Control Tag code on a website

Click tracker

This capture source is implemented within social, search and other campaigns to track clicks. The tracker is configured by channel and additional information such as campaign id is also captured.

View Channel Metrics below for more details.

Events

This capture source is implemented within media and content to track events through the event pixel. By clicking on the gear icon, users are able to access event metrics which show event capture activity for a given period of time.

Streaming Segment

This capture source is used to deliver user segment membership in real-time for data that is managed offline or via an external system that does not contain the Audience Studio Control Tag or mobile SDK. By clicking on the gear icon, users are able to access streaming segment metrics which show streaming segment capture activity for a given period of time.

Capture Reports

Reports include the top 25 results. To find a specific attribute, value, or site, search by name in the search field. Reports may additionally be filtered by a specific timeframe in hours (1,3,6,12, 24).

Attributes

Access Attribute Metrics by selecting the gear icon within 'Websites - Control Tag' and selecting 'Attribute Metrics'. The report includes recently captured attributes.

Attribute Values

Recently captured attribute values are available in the attribute value report. This report can be generated for a specific attribute and may be accessed from the data capture attribute report or by selecting the gear icon next to a specific attribute from the Attribute Management screens.

Site Report (confids)

Access Site Metrics by selecting the gear icon within 'Websites - Control Tag' and selecting 'Attribute Metrics'. View recent data capture metrics by site.

Channel Metrics

Access Channel Metrics by selecting the gear icon within 'Ad Impression' or 'Click Tracker' and selecting 'Channel Metrics'. View recent activity by channel based on the channel referenced in the tracking code. You may view individual campaign ids by selecting the gear icon next to any one of the channels within the Channel Metrics.

Campaign IDs

Recently captured campaign ids are available in the campaign id report. This report may be generated for a specific channel within adimpression or click tracker capture sources. You may view individual campaign ids by selecting the gear icon next to any one of the channels within the Channel Metrics.

Note: campaign names are not supported since the name mapping process occurs after data is logged and the real-time data in these reports are based on log data that's available immediately and before additional processing occurs for mapping and analytics.
