What types of data can I sell via Link?
Link allows you to sell a number of different types of 1P data:
- Data collected via the Control Tag
- 1P data onboarded via onboarding partner
- 1P data coming from a cross-DMP integration
Can my data appear higher in the search results?
The Link marketplace search engine utilizes a proprietary algorithm when returning search results. Unlike other marketplaces we utilize a broad array of data points to properly match the results to the query. You cannot affect how or in which order your data will be displayed in the search results. You can however, increase the accuracy of the search results by ensuring you write concise but descriptive titles and descriptions, properly categorize your segments, and effectively use the available tag feature.
Can a seller make their data public, but anonymous?
Yes, the best way to do this is through Link Verified Segments which simply requires approval to opt in. For more information, please reach out to your Link contact
What is a public segment?
Public segments puts the segments in the Link Store, but also gives you the ability to send to public distribution. The public distribution you wish to send to can be chosen when creating the Link segment.
Are my public segments available to all companies or only those signed to Link?
Public segments allow your segments to be available to all clients in the Link Store, as well as all users in the distribution platform you have decided to sent it to, without having to sign a Link contract.
Am I able to restrict which clients are able to see my segments in the Link store?
Yes. Using the blocklist organizations function when creating a segment, you can easily control the organizations that can see your segment and the partners the segment can be activated in.
There is also the option of blocklisting by buyer types. This allows you to blocklist any organizations within Link that is categorized your selected blocklist buyer type.
Am I able to limit the number of clients that can see my segments in the Link store?
Yes. We also have a whitelist organizations function that allows you to control which organizations have access to your segments in the Link store.
What is the difference between Blocklists and Whitelists?
Blocklist allows you select specific organizations that you would like to block out from viewing or accessing your data. Whitelist allows you to select specific organizations that you would like to view or have access to your data.
It is recommended to use the blocklist function if you would like the majority of the organizations to have access to your data, but only block out a limited number of organizations. It is recommended to use the whitelist function if you would only like a selected number of organizations to have access to your data.
What happens if a seller deactivates a Link segment that is being used by a buyer?
Sellers are unable to deactivate any segments that currently have an active order associated with it. Only until the order has expired will the seller be able to make any edits, or deactivate the Link segment. The moment an order is created, the Link Segment and core segments are all frozen, no edits can be made from this point forward.
Can I edit a segment if my segment has not been approved yet?
Yes. Any segment that has not been approved yet, can be edited by the user and does not require the Link team to assist.
I am currently sending a Link segment to a buyer, but I have new data I would like to add to that segment. How can I do this?
When there are active orders for a Link segment, you are unable to edit the core segment unless the active orders have ended. We would suggest you ask your client to stop using the old segment, create a new Link segment with the updated core segment, and push the segment to your client again.
I accidentally created a direct segment to the wrong client in Link. What should I do?
If there was an accident or mistake when creating a segment, please reach out to the Link Ops team.
How will my data appear in the various activation channels (i.e. Trade Desk, Link Store)?
Link Store – Segments show up in the Link store with the Segment Name, Description of the segment, Price, category, Type, and Seller. Segments can be found in the store by browsing through the list, or users can search by Name, Description, Type, and Tags
The Trade Desk – When logged into The Trade Desk, users can find their segments by selecting “Data Platform” in the Menu Bar. Check “Salesforce DMP Link” from the list on the left, and all segments will be displayed.
Other DSPs – In other DSPs, segments show up in the 3rd party data drop down in this taxonomy. As an example:
Salesforce DMP Link -> Pub Name -> Category -> Marketplace/Segment Name
How can sellers be sure that segments won’t be used for purposes such as modeling?
The Link provisioning console has controls in place that prevent buyers from using the data in any way not specified but the data owner. This is called Software Enabled Data Governance. Lookalikes, by default, are restricted within Link so a data owner would have to specify that their segments can be used for lookalike modeling before an order is created.
As a Link Seller I would like to send data to one Krux org with $0 CPM and no usage restrictions. How should I set this up?
The best way to do this, is to create Direct Segments with the data receiver selected as the partner organization.
When do sellers receive their monthly revenue report?
We issue monthly revenue report on the 15th of the month following activation.
Is there a way for me to send segments directly to a specific seat within a DSP?
Link has established direct connections with a number of partners to expand monetization opportunities for data owners. Data Owners can send data as a Direct Segment in Link specifically to a buyer’s seat within The Trade Desk and Google. In some cases with DSP approval, data owners can publicly distribute their data through Link to The Trade Desk and MediaMath, for all buyers within those DSPs.
As a DMP, we have the ability to send data to almost any DSP directly, but currently Link does not support the billing, reporting, or provisioning workflow for additional DSPs.
How do I setup my segments to send to a Specific Partner Seat within a DSP?
The process of setting up your segment to be ready to send to a specific partner seat is no different from any other direct segments you create in Link. However, rather than sending it to a Partner Organization, you are sending it to the Distribution Partner you wish to send the segment to.
When creating the segment, please follow the following steps:
- Meta-Type: Direct
- Enable the segment
- Segment: Select the core segment you wish to use to build this segment
- If you are sending it to a Google seat, the price you enter here will be the final price your client will receive
- If you are sending it to a TTD seat, please note that there will be a 30% uplift fee applied. E.g. Default price of $1.00 in Link will result in the final price of $1.30 in TTD.
- Marketplace Name: The marketplace name you would like your client to see
- Blocklist partners: Leave None Selected
- Partner Organizations: Leave None Selected
- Distribution Partners: Select the distribution partner you would like to send the segment to
- Date Range: This is very important when sending segments to the distribution partner. Once this date is entered, you will not be able to edit and make any changes until the order has expired. If you know that you will most likely make changes in the short term, we recommend you to set a shorter time frame as the segment will be locked once the segment is approved.
Once you have created the segment, please fill out our Public Distribution form. If you require access to the form, please file a help ticket via the Help Center and we will provide you access with one. Once the request has been submitted, we will map your segments and complete your request within 5 business days.
Which DSPs currently support custom direct segments?
We are constantly working with our partners to set up private distribution to allow users the ability to send segments to specific seats within different partners and DSPs. Currently we have two available partners for custom direct: Google & TheTradeDesk.
I made a price change in the UI, why isn’t the change reflected in my client’s DBM account?
Price changes are not supported for segments that are being sent to Distribution Partners. If you would like your segment to be purchased at a new price point, please create a new segment, and submit a new custom direct request.
My client has a campaign starting soon, how long will it take to set up custom direct segments?
Getting segments mapped to an individual seat takes 5 business days. Make sure that you have the request submitted and segment start dates set to at least 1 week prior to the campaign start date to ensure that the data is available in time for the campaign start.
I received a notification that a buyer would like to extend their order, what is this for? How can I approve or reject this request?
When a buyer would like to extend an existing order to continue to use the data, they are able to request to extend their order, which will require the seller to approve. When a buyer submits a request to extend an order, sellers will receive a notification to alert them of this request. In order to approve/reject the request, the seller will need to navigate to their Activation > Seller > Manage Orders > Locate the Order. When there is a request to extend an order, the current status of the order will be “change request” rather than “active.” The seller will then have the option click on the thumbs up symbol within the Actions wheel.
To approve/reject the date range extension request, hit the thumbs up button. The popup will display the old end date, and the newly requested end date. You can either Approve/Reject the request, or hit cancel to come back later.
My client has told me that they are using the segments we sent them; however, I do not see this reflected in the Link Seller Manage Order UI, why is that?
The orders UI within Link is used to review and approve segment requests. We are currently working on updating that interface, and the function is currently unavailable. Please use the reports provided at the end of the month as the true record.
Are the segment CPMs in the Link store negotiable?
Some are, yes. If buyers find a segment that they are interested in that is out of their price range, they can contact the Link team to work with the seller. The Link team will be happy to help facilitate a conversation between buyers and sellers to negotiate rates. However, the ultimate control is in the data owner’s hand, and they make the ultimate decision on how to price their data.
How are buyers notified of new segments available?
The Link team is working to create a newsletter that specifies new demand that will go out to Link customers.
What types of data are Link Verified Audiences sourced from?
Link Verified Audience segments are sourced from multiple first-party data suppliers. These segments are offered to buyers with an assurance from Salesforce that they are created using first-party data from multiple premium sources.
What is the cost of Link Verified Audiences and other segments available in the Link Store?
When searching for any segments in the Link store, you will be able to locate the CPM price in the results
How do I get the agency to be billed instead of the marketer client?
With public distribution partners such as TTD, we are able to send direct segments to the agency’s seat in TTD. The agency will be directly billed by the distribution partner such as Google or TTD. This will prevent the marketers from being billed by Link.
I recently requested to purchase data from a seller in the Link store and set the date range to be 01/01-8/31, if we build a segment using that data are we restricted to those dates or can that be edited?
Buyers are able to request to extend end dates through the order screen. Once the extension request is made, sellers will receive a notification to either approve or reject the request.
How do I extend the date range of an order?
Select the order you would like to extend the date range for. Select the action wheel on the right > Request for Date Range Extension > Select new end date > Confirm. Once this is completed, the seller will receive a notification of your request which they can either approve or reject.
If we purchased a segment but never used it, will we be charged for it?
If a segment was priced at a CPM for activation, and you did not activate that segment, then you will not be charged.
Why can’t I create a lookalike segment from the Link segment I purchased?
Software Enabled Data Governance ensure technical blocks are in place in the UI that will prevent buyers from creating lookalikes from Link segments. Lookalike segments can only be built with 2nd Party data if they were are purchased specifically for lookalikes. When trying to create a segment that includes rules which are not meant for Analytics & Modeling, such as LAL segments, this notification will pop up to prompt you that this rule is not meant for analytics.
Why do I only see certain execution systems when enabling my segments for interchange?
If the segments you are trying to enable for interchange contains any 2nd Party Data, you are unable to enable the segments due to the restrictions set by the data provider. Part of our Software Enabled Data Governance data providers are able to prohibit their data being sent to designated execution systems, and prevent any activation in that platform. If you are unable to activate a segment in a specific execution system, and the segment consists of a Link rule, this execution system has been blocked by the data provider.
Where did the numbers in my invoice come from?
The number you see in your invoice comes from a number of different sources. The numbers can come from different sources depending on the execution system selected:
- As part of the Link requirement, we require buyers to setup automated daily reports once they have begun targeting the data. Therefore one of the sources of your invoice will come from the buyer self-reported usage.
- Link works with a number of our DSP partners to received 2nd Party Billing Report from them at the end of the month that includes all activation of Link segments on their platform. Another source of your invoice may come from 2nd Party Billing Reports we receive.
- Link Ad log reports from our clients on a daily basis, any Link segments targeted on O&O sites and DFP will be used as part of the final invoice.
How can I access the data I purchased from the Link Store in the Segment Builder?
After placing the data in your cart, before you purchase the segment. Make sure that the “Use in Segment Builder” box is checked.
Once the seller has approved your request to purchase the segment, you will now have access to the data in your segment builder. Within segment builder, hover down the left menu until you see 2nd Party. Select Link Purchased Audiences, and under Rules, you will now be able to select all Link Purchased segments and apply it as a rule.
When will I receive automated email notifications from Link?
For buyers, email alerts are sent from the Link store when a new request has been approved or rejected. For Sellers, email alerts are sent when a request needs approval.
The Link store has been enabled for my account, but I cannot see it. What should I do?
Ask one of your admin users to go to your user permissions and provide you with access. Open a ticket with the Support Team via the Help Center if you need assistance.
